Farming the future with HPE GPU servers
The Faculty of Technology of the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague (ČZU) is one of the leading academic institutions that are actively reshaping the face of modern agriculture. In their laboratories and development centres, solutions linking sensors, robotics, AI, drones and modelling of complex agricultural processes are being developed. For this research to work effectively, it needs massive computing power and a flexible IT infrastructure – and that’s exactly what we at M Computers have taken care of as a technology partner. Thanks to our implementation of modern HPE technologies, the CZU gains a robust digital foundation for more efficient education, research, higher reliability and optimization of IT costs.
The challenges of data-intensive research
In academia, we encounter requirements for powerful simulations, real-time processing of large volumes of data and remote access to computing resources.
“Our precision farming development projects use sensors, robotics, artificial intelligence, drones, and we use a lot of computing technology. The creation of 3D models, simulations, verification and precision analysis of agricultural processes is driven primarily by computing power.” add the faculty themselves.
Key benefits of the solution
- Accelerate simulation and modeling: powerful HPE GPU servers with direct access to shared memory dramatically accelerate simulation and 3D model creation, speeding up all work, hypothesis validation and new process development.
- Mobility and collaboration: the HPE multi-GPU infrastructure allows students and academics to test complex models and perform analyses remotely, fostering international collaboration and giving the opportunity to involve a research team literally anywhere in the world.
- Efficient data processing: the platform handles accelerated analysis of voluminous datasets from field and lab measurements, providing deeper and more accurate insights into agricultural processes, from fertiliser optimisation to yield prediction.
- Learning support: students have a robust environment for testing hypotheses and algorithms without limitations, which advances the quality of teaching and scientific output.

Computing power in practice
In collaboration with HPE, we designed and deployed an infrastructure based on interconnecting HPE GPU servers with direct access to shared memory. This powerful server solution provides flexibility to the CZU research teams, allowing them to process large volumes of data and to use advanced explicit numerical methods of discrete and volumetric elements in large-scale simulations. Our experts from M Computers provided both the implementation itself and technical support and consultation throughout the deployment.
Technology that makes sense
We are pleased that the solution we have delivered is helping to develop cutting-edge research with an impact on practice. The partnership with CFA shows that modern IT infrastructure is also crucial in traditional agriculture – not only in terms of performance, but also sustainability and accuracy. The project is a great example of how using the right tools can move the field forward.
